Counseling Department
The Counseling Department at Bishop McDevitt works collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and community members to enhance the learning and futures of our students. While one is assigned to each student, they are multiple counselors available for students to consult with regarding academic, social, or career questions and concerns. During 9th grade, students are encouraged to sign up for group sessions that best fit their interest while also having the option to make individual appointments. Freshmen spend time learning how to navigate through Naviance, a college and career readiness tool that will be crucial as an upperclassman when students are applying to colleges and determining what careers may be a good fit for them. Grades 10-12 spend a great deal of time focusing on the goals, both academic and personal, that students have.
Many assessments throughout the academic year are coordinated through the Counseling Department as well. The SAT, PSAT, ACT, and AP exams are all scheduled and presented to students at particular times within the year. The PSAT is commonly referred to as the Practice SAT test and is taken by juniors during school in early October. The PSAT is now a digital exam. Juniors and Seniors are both advised to take the SAT and or ACT when they are prepared. The Counseling Department sponsors multiple school-wide events, including College Fairs, Career Days, and multiple evening college-related events for students and parents.
