Winter Sports Guidelines

Everyone attending the sporting event, including coaches, officials, athletes, staff and spectators must wear face coverings (masks).  Anyone who refuses to adhere to our guidelines will be asked to leave.  We greatly appreciate your cooperation.

Athletic Event Spectator Procedures/Considerations

Due to differing numbers of participants on each team, the following procedures will be in place for Winter Sporting Contests:

GIRLS & BOYS BASKETBALL:

Each student athlete and coach on the roster will get two spectators into each home event.  There is a $5.00 charge for each spectator.  No visiting team spectators will be allowed.  There could be a comp. list to accommodate Bishop McDevitt dignitaries, faculty, school board members and college coaches recruiting our athletes.  Arrangements should be made prior to the event with Mr. Mealy.

Members of the same household must sit together; wear face coverings at all times indoors and maintain social distancing protocols.  All spectators must sit in the bleachers closest to the school hallway/windows.  The bleachers on the athletic hallways side will only be half-way out and will be used for JV/V team members and coaching staff only while waiting to play.  Game seats for both teams will be socially distanced on that athletic hallway side and the scorer's table will be in the middle.  There will be hand sanitizing stations near the team benches.

Both teams will be permitted in the gymnasium, but will remain socially distanced.  After the conclusion of the JV game, JV players and parents should exit the gym.

Games will be livestreamed on the Bishop McDevitt YouTube channel link provided before the game.

Lockerooms will be provided for all teams but teams should arrive at a preferred time ready to play dressed in uniforms.  Lockerooms have two rooms and members can socially distance using the two rooms; one (1) team at a time.  JV should be outside while the Varsity team is in the locker and vice versa.

Our plan is to have player introductions.  Players will stand from their seat or wave from their standing position.  No exchanges with officials or opponents coaches.  Members will remain there for the playing of the national anthem.  Post game teams will wave to opponents to exemplify sportsmanship.

Basketballs will be provided for warmups.  Teams are more than welcome to bring their own balls.  Balls will be sanitized prior to and after all games.

Bishop McDevitt will not provide water for away teams.  Please bring your own cooler or water sources.

Game officials will have a two-room or single room options (Officials Room, Phys. Ed Office)

Athletic Trainer will be on duty for all games.  Taping will be available for acute injuries which occur during competition, if warranted.  Please have athletes taped prior to arrival, if possible.
