Dear Bishop McDevitt students and families,
As teachers and administration continue to monitor and assess our online education option we are exploring many avenues to balance the time management and workload for our students. Please know that our intent is to maintain the rigor our students deserve, but not to overwhelm them. This will continue to be an evolving process which we will reassess frequently.
We understand this week has been an adjustment period for both faculty and students. Therefore, we have made the decision to readjust our lesson plans for Friday March 20th, 2020 as well as the due dates for assignments. Friday’s lessons will be rescheduled for next week’s lessons. Friday will be considered a make-up day for all work assigned for this past week. There are some teachers who have given their individual classes a make-up day already this week and it will be left to those teachers’ discretion to have students work on new assignments this week since they have already provided this much needed make up day. Additionally, teachers will be adjusting the due date times for all assignments to 11:59pm each day. While lessons will be scheduled due by 11:59pm each day, we will be flexible with students to have assignment final due dates accepted if received by Sunday at 11:59pm. This will give our students an entire week to complete the weeks’ assignments. Students can work on the weekend if they choose to pace themselves in that fashion. It is desirable that students have some time during the regular instructional day to decompress, take breaks, and engage in some activity of their choosing. We hope this adjustment will provide time to integrate down time into their daily routines. Students will not be penalized attendance if they complete their work for the week and have no assignments to do on Friday. However, if their assignments are submitted haphazardly, incomplete, or subpar for their potential, teachers have been encouraged to request students to resubmit the work. Please remember teachers are grading assignments.
As we continue moving forward we will reassess frequently. Again, we are in uncertain times. As schools across the country continue to close and extend their closures, ,we want to assure Bishop McDevitt students and families that we will be available to educate our students. We will not allow this crisis to diminish the academic progress our students deserve. We will work to provide as reasonable and rigorous curriculum as possible for all students. Thank you for your patience and God Bless.
“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12
