Dear Bishop McDevitt families,
March 10. 2020
We have had several inquiries into our potential response to the COVID-19 virus. Currently we are monitoring and adhering to recommendations from the CDC and the Pa Department of Health on response protocols for COVID-19. At this time there has been no recommendation for preemptive closure of schools or cancelling of mass gatherings or events. As of today, events such as Mini-thon, Prom, Graduation, and extra-curricular events will be held as scheduled. We have made the decision to postpone or cancel any field trips that would require out of town travel to large metropolitan areas or places where there have been confirmed cases of COVID-19. At this time there has not been a restriction placed on travel for sporting events. We will continue to monitor any extra-curricular events between McDevitt students and other teams for potential risk factors in determining whether to cancel or continue the event. We continue to monitor and advise all staff and students to adhere to the preventative measures outlined in our previous communication regarding the spread of COVID-19. Please know we are not minimizing the potential effects this has on our students or staff. Should there be a risk assessment that warrants closing of schools, postponement of extra-curricular activities, and/or large gatherings Bishop McDevitt is prepared to respond according to CDC and Pa Department of Health Guidelines. We currently have plans to provide academic course work via online applications and have recently installed off line google applications that will assist students complete course work in the event of an extended school closure. We continue to encourage all to adhere to the preventative methods to prevent the spread of COVID-19 such as :
Cover coughs or sneezes with your elbow, preferably a tissue that can be disposed of immediately. DO NOT USE YOUR HANDS.
Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
Clean surfaces frequently including countertops, light switches, cell phones, remotes, and other frequently touched items.
Contain: If you are sick, stay home until you are feeling better.
