FACTS & INFORMATION
All incoming 9th graders are required to take this test. This test is not a pass/fail test and the results do not affect the admissions decision. It is a standardized, national test. Using this type of assessment allows Bishop McDevitt to see how 8th graders perform compared to their peers. We are also able to provide parents with a detailed performance profile specific to their child’s results. The performance profile is a detailed portrait of your child’s strengths and weaknesses.
The test is not a pass/fail test and it will not keep a student from attending McDevitt if they do not perform well. It is used to begin the process of understanding and gauging where each child fits best within our high school curriculum. This test does not measure minimal benchmarks, but rather the student’s potential to learn.—similar to the SAT. We understand the HSPT is only one part of your child’s story when considering academic placement.
Absolutely! These special days are called “Crusader for a Day” visits. This day must be scheduled in advanced by contacting the Director of Admissions at 236-7973, ext. 2132 or email@example.com. Your student will be paired with a current Crusader that is academically similar and shares the same interests. Although we want the Future Crusader to enjoy the day, it is an academic day for the McDevitt student. These days are reserved for, but not excluded to, students who are undecided about which high school to attend.
This is a wonderful way for a young student to experience firsthand the classes and teachers at Bishop McDevitt.
YES! The word “Catholic” means universal. You may attend McDevitt if you are not Catholic. All students are required to take four years of Religion classes, attend retreats, complete service hours and show respect and reverence for our Catholic traditions.
Yes, financial aid applications become available in February for the next school year. Even if you are just thinking about McDevitt for the next school year, you should fill out the applications in February. Bishop McDevitt has over $500,000 in scholarship monies. There are three scholarships on our website. They are partial scholarships. These students have the potential to be awarded a full tuition scholarship. These scholarships are based on financial needs. Copies of tax returns must accompany all forms.
During the school year, several named scholarships donated by parents, alumni and friends of Bishop McDevitt are also available. Students must meet the criteria set forth by the scholarship and an essay is usually required

Bishop McDevitt does not have its own fleet of buses. We rely on the students’ home school districts to provide busing. Most of the surrounding public school districts provide busing within a 10 mile radius. We recommend that parents contact the transportation department of their home public school district and ask specifically. Once a student is officially registered and enrolled at Bishop McDevitt, we will take care of contacting the districts and setting up the busing—if it is provided.
