Mahatma Gandhi was born in 1869 and died in 1948. He was one of the foremost spiritual leaders of the 1900’s. Born and raised in Porbandar, India, Gandhi based his life on truth and nonviolence attempting to help free India from British control. Mahatma lived out my chosen beatitude (blessed are those who hunger and thirst for uprightness: for they shall have their fill) by standing up for his beliefs and the freedom of his people. He eventually did free India, but in a unique way. Using nonviolence, courage, and truth, he yearned for righteousness. Mahatma was a humble man who never asked for anything in return for what he did. He chose to live in this way because ever since he was young he chose to strive for peace and justice.
