GROUNDBREAKING

Groundbreaking for the new Bishop McDevitt High School campus was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2011. Bishop McFadden led the blessing of the new site, with around 200 guests in attendance. Dignitaries, alumni, faculty, students and guests participated in a historic moment in the history of Bishop McDevitt High School. The campus, to be built on 87 acres on Spring Creek Road in Lower Paxton Twp., will have a 175,000-square-foot school, 1,200-seat auditorium, 120-seat chapel and 1,000-seat gym.

Contractor E.R. Stuebner Inc. of Reading will build the facility, which will replace the 80-year-old school on Market Street in Harrisburg. The school is expected to be completed during the 2012-13 school year.

The campus will cost $42 million to $45 million, school officials have said. The Capital Campaign for the project has raised about $13 million toward its $16 million goal.
