CONSTRUCTION COMPANY SELECTED FOR NEW BISHOP McDEVITT CAMPUS

Harrisburg, Pa. – E.R. Stuebner of Reading has been selected as the general contractor for the construction of the new Bishop McDevitt High School campus in Lower Paxton Township. The academic facility is scheduled for completion during the 2012-13 academic year.

The new location will be centrally located to the 10 parishes that comprise and support the school, as well as the city of Harrisburg.

“This is another major step forward in our efforts to build a 21st century campus for the Bishop McDevitt community,” said Sister Mary Anne Bednar, principal of Bishop McDevitt High School.  “We’re right on track to open the new school during the 2012-13 school year.”

E.R. Stuebner’s projects include: the construction of Perkiomen Valley Middle School in Montgomery County; the construction of the Schmidt Training and Technology Center at the Reading Area Community College in Berks County; and the terminal expansion project at the Lehigh Valley International Airport in Berks County.

To date, $13 million has been raised for the new 87-acre campus on Spring Creek Road, which would replace the current 80-year-old high school.  To complete construction, fundraising efforts will continue through the project’s Fulfilling the Promise campaign.  Naming opportunities on the campus are available.

The new Bishop McDevitt High School campus will feature a 175,000-square-foot academic facility, 1,200-seat auditorium, 120-seat chapel, 1,000-seat gym, state-of-the-art library, performing arts center, and premier athletics facilities, including a football stadium and arena for wrestling, basketball and other sporting events.

Originally known as Harrisburg Catholic High School upon its founding in 1918, Bishop McDevitt High School has been located on Market Street in Harrisburg since 1930 and remains one of the oldest central Pennsylvania high school buildings still in use.

If you would like to discuss naming opportunities for the new school or make a donation to Fulfilling the Promise, please contact Sister Mary Anne Bednar, IHM, Principal; or Cheri Comasco, Director of Advancement at Bishop McDevitt High School by calling 717-236-7973.   Donations also can be made by clicking on the Fulfilling the Promise logo to the right.
