Bishop McDevitt High School officials today announced that in three months they have raised nearly $12 million of the $16 million needed before construction of a high school can begin in Lower Paxton Twp.

Sister Mary Anne Bednar, principal of the school, said the school hopes to raise the remaining $4 million over the next six months. The remainder of the $42 million to $45 million project will be paid for through continued fundraising and borrowing, she said. If progress continues, Bednar said, they hope to open the new school in fall 2012.

An 87-acre campus on Spring Creek Road will replace the 80-year-old Bishop McDevitt High School on six acres at 2200 Market St., Harrisburg. The new school will hold up to 950 students in a 175,000-square-foot building, which is about 50,000 square feet larger than the current building.
