The Philosophy

Accepting the teaching of Christ as found in Luke 12:48 "to those who have been given much, much is expected" the Bishop Lawrence F. Schott Chapter of the National Honor Society encourages its members to develop further their own potential by using the talents God gives them to benefit others and increase their own merit before God.

The National Honor Society is comprised of a group of Bishop McDevitt High School Juniors and Seniors who endeavor to model our Chapter's Philosophy.  We honor students who:

  • Achieve an advanced level of scholastic standing
  • Manifest Christian character traits
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities both in and out of school
  • Render worthy service

We nurture our members' talents so that each may grow in the realization that their God-given gifts are meant to serve others.  Each member strives to be the leaven which raises the quality of the:

  • Bishop Lawrence F. Schott Chapter of the NHS
  • Bishop McDevitt community
  • Clubs or teams within our community
  • Parishes/Places of Worship

Continuous evaluation of the qualities which merit our members' selection into the NHS, and acceptance of the fact that default of maintaining these qualities may lead to dismissal, fosters self evaluation and creates an atmosphere of growth reflecting the principles of the National Honor Society.
